THE MAKING OF A
ROADBOOK
⚲ STEP 1 | LOCATION DISCOVERY
The work begins once an interesting area is identified. A basic track is made via satellite images with topo maps overlaps.
⛰︎ STEP 2 | TEST RIDE
It’s time to go for a ride. Following the track via GPS at the onset helps find alternatives to obstructed areas, fences and other obstacles. I will also alter the track if I discover a more interesting trail, which happens often!
✎ᝰ. STEP 3 | FIRST RECO
Next comes the edits. This requires computer work based on satellite images. From here the first reco of the roadbook is established, which is the very slow process of adding all relevant information to every single tulip. It also includes adding new tulips with dangers and other elements invisible on satellite imagery, etc.
⚠︎ STEP 4 | VERIFICATION
Final edits are made returning to the computer where all extra notes marked from the GPS are added. Finally, when the roadbook is ready, it is verified at normal speed. Last but not least, the final adjustments. This involves for example, taking into account danger levels and tulip-merging in an attempt to ensure optimal riding flow.
